Dissertation prize winner announced

LSA is delighted to announce that Onna Rageth of Falmouth University has won our annual postgraduate dissertation of the year award. Onna is a graduate of Falmouth University’s MA Creative Event Management. Her dissertation, entitled ‘Postgraduate distance education and the challenges of becoming an event designer in the 21st century’ offers a transdisciplinary contextualisation, not only of event curricula and events education, but of the researcher’s experiences of being introduced to the relatively young, developing and increasingly popular degree of Events Management. The dissertation is highly reflexive, combining autoethnographic insights with primary data collected through interviews. It argues that the events industry at large must work on developing its status in order to help professionals identify with their vocation and differentiate it from related disciplines.
Judges, Dr Ian Jones and Dr Dave Scott especially commended Onna’s ambition and innovation in producing a highly original and relevant piece of work.
Onna receives £100 cash and is invited to present her work at our annual conference at Manchester Metropolitan University.
LSA would also like to thank Clare Hearn for nominating Onna’s project, as well as all the other nominees for their submissions.
