New committee member: Chris Russell
Louise Platt / October 30, 2019
We are delighted to welcome Chris Russell to the exec committee. Chris has been an active member for the last few years whilst he has been doing his PhD (soon to submit!!) and was a recipient of one of the first rounds of our grant scheme.
Chris has a life-long interest in leisure. This is translated into an academic and professional context through his research into the engagement by people living with dementia in physical activity and sport. This has a particular focus upon identity and social citizenship. Chris leads the postgraduate programme for dementia studies at the University of Worcester, in the United Kingdom. Chris is also a registered social worker and qualified football coach. His future research interests include investigating how leisure, sport and physical activity might contribute to enhancing the citizenship of some of the most marginalised people in society, people with dementia living in residential and hospital care. Chris is also interested in the context of family carers and how leisure might enable them to strengthen personal agency and the agency of those whom they support.
