The Department of Sport and Event Management at Bournemouth University is delighted to announce that the 2023 LSA Conference, will be held in Bournemouth from the 11th to the 13th July 2023.

Re-creating Leisure, LSA Conference 2023,

Call for Papers

Under the theme of “Re-creating Leisure”, the 2023 LSA Conference will bring together an interdisciplinary field of researchers, educators, students, practitioners and policymakers to share visions, expertise, experiences to critically examine how leisure practices, spaces, and domains are theorised, researched, and experienced. Recent global events have dramatically underlined the significance of making sense of leisure in times of upheaval.

We invite contributions in various topics related to:

  • Leisure and sustainability
  • Methodological innovations in leisure
  • Health and well-being
  • Leisure and place-making
  • Leisure in times of upheaval
  • Leisure through entrepreneurship and innovation

  • Open Theme (within this stream, we invite papers that deal with themes of re-creating leisure that do not fit within the above-mentioned four streams.

Submission Guidelines 

Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be provided on a Microsoft Word document and submitted as an email attachment to no later than Friday 27th January, 2023.

Each abstract should include:

  • A summary of your presentation
  • An indication of which stream you wish to be considered for
  • The title of the presentation
  • All author(s) names and institutional affiliations
  • A brief biog of all contributing authors

Abstracts may be submitted in one of the following formats

Traditional Paper

Working Paper


Themed Session

Alternative Format

Review Process 

Each abstract will be double-blind reviewed. Abstracts will be based on:

  • Appropriateness and suitability of its subject matter for LSA 2023
  • Adherence to format requirements described in the Call for Papers; and
  • Overall quality.

Any abstract previously published and presented at another national or regional meeting is not acceptable for presentation at LSA 2023. However, new aspects of previously published material may be considered.

Students are encouraged to submit abstracts reporting empirical research, theoretical work, and works-in-progress (e.g., study proposals). Student submission undergoes the same review process as non-student submissions.

Upon Acceptance

The primary contact indicated on the abstract will be informed of the status (accepted or rejected) of their submission. Some submissions will require changes to address reviewer feedback before final acceptance.
