LSA Unconference

We are pleased to announce further detail and the registration link for the LSA Unconference, scheduled for Wednesday 9 October 2024, 15.00 GMT+1 to 18.00 GMT+1.

This free online event will feature a series of participant led conversations and opportunities inspired by equity, diversity and inclusivity. They will be based on themes that have been shared by LSA members through a series of workshops and other engagements over the last 6 months, including decolonisation, accessibility, mentorship, collaboration and the making of community.

We will loosely structure our time together using these as prompts, gently held by the EDI working party (Bailey Adie, Briony Sharp, David Scott and Clare Hearn) – but as an Unconference, we wish for the conversations to be dynamic, fluid and based on the sharing of experiences, ideas and the wisdom of all.

The digital event venue will also offer:

– opportunities for members to comment on the final draft of the LSA’s EDI policy and action plan either via written or conversational feedback.

– networking facilities to enable new or ongoing conversations.

– a meeting place to make introductions and find new connections.

– a co-built resource centre featuring relevant publications and podcasts

In short, we hope to create a safe space for conversations around EDI topics and issues within the LSA, within our field and within academia more broadly. The event will not be recorded and you can choose your way of being present and contributing.

You can use the following link to register your attendance at the online event:

The event is the final activity of our current AcSS / ESRC funded EDI project, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to devote time to this important area.

The event will be held in a bespoke digital venue created by Ivent, a leading platform for virtual and hybrid events, who are kindly supporting the LSA in this venture. This custom space offers a fully branded, scalable, and accessible environment, ideal for engaging global audiences through events, content and community. Attendees can experience seamless real-time interactions, access on-demand content and connect with peers. For each event, Ivent plants trees to offset carbon emissions, making every gathering they hold carbon-negative.

You will receive further guidance on how to navigate this space after registration but be assured that it has been designed to be as intuitive and accessible as possible, and you can engage in whatever way you feel comfortable.

Please note that if you will be based in China at the time of the event, and using a VPN, we would like to offer you the opportunity to check your access in advance. Please contact Clare at c.hearn@exeter.ac.uk to arrange this.
